The Last Song Tops The Box Office With $5.1 Million

Despite disappointing reviews, Miley Cyrus' The Last Song topped the daily box office, according to THR: With a base of support among the topliner's tween female fans, 'Song' always figured to be front-loaded in its five-day opening run. But its first-day tally was better than anticipated, suggesting cumulative box office of $20 million or more through Sunday.

Disney rep said: 'The whole idea of opening on a Wednesday was to try to set ourselves apart from the competition. There are a lot of big pictures out there, and the only way to get noticed is to get out there and strut your stuff.' The midweek bow also gave 'Song' a jump on the Easter frame. Many students will have a long weekend, and that should pump up grosses through Friday.
